Is Normal Delivery Possible If Having High Lying Placenta?

My latest u/s read that i am 5.5 high lying anterior placenta. What do you recommend for delivery? Is normal delivery no problem at all? or will i have danger with severe bleeding or hemorrhage? or better yet, have a c-section delivery to be safe? thank you.

Thank you for consulting in HealthCareMagic. Unless the placenta is low lying and unless there are no other contraindications to normal delivery, there is no problem if normal delivery is done. So with a high lying anterior placenta there should not be any problems related too severe bleeding unless other factors are involved. Your gynecologist could assess the exact situation in your case and tell if there is a disparity in the size of foetal head and your pelvis or any other related factors which would make a cesarean delivery preferred.
Some women prefer to go for cesarean section hoping that they would not have to face the severe labour pains. In some centres gynecologists are not available round the clock and so there would be nobody to look after in case a normal delivery is attempted where the actual time of delivery cannot be predicted earlier. In that situation the gynecologist may prefer to go for a planned cesarean section based on both his and patient's convenience. Although the complications like bleeding are slightly more with normal delivery, the actual incidence is based on how complicated and how critical the individual case is. So you need not worry about it.
So, I guess you will have to discuss the issue with your gynecologist and discuss according to mutual preferences.
