Is On And Off Numbness In Leg While Having Fracture In L1 Vertebrae Normal?

Hi there two days ago i got crushed by a horse, and now have a fracture in my L1 vertebrae, i have been given a back brace and been told that it is stable (though not much has been explained to me, my doctor was bad to be honest). Now I am suffering with on and off numbness in my lower left leg, is this normal with this kind of injury? should I be worried?
