Hi,I am Dr. Shivaprasad C (Endocrinologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 28 year old son was born with genetic osteo stenosis of the radius and ulna. His wife is expecting their first baby. What is the chance of the baby having the same problem? He has it in both arms, cannot turn his hands over at all, or straighten his arms all the way.
Welcome to HCM This is Dr Amit. let me help you in this case. In Radioulnar synotosis there is an abnormal connection (synostosis) of the radius and ulna (bones in the forearm) at birth. The condition is present in both arms (bilateral) in approximately 60% of cases. Signs and symptoms depend on the severity of the abnormality and whether it is bilateral; male and females are affected equally. Affected individuals often have limited rotational movement of the forearm. It is sometimes a feature of certain chromosome abnormalities or genetic syndromes. Some cases appear to be inherited in an autosomal dominant manner. IT IS VERY RARE AND HEREDITARY LINK IS DOUBTFUL. Feel free to ask if you have any other query Regards
