Is Pain Behind The Eye A Symptom Of Migraine?

I have been diagnosed with migraines. I have had several x-rays, a ct scan and an MRI throughout my childhood. Since none of my doctors have been able to tell me the cause of my severe migraines, (which used to cause me to throw up every time I had one) nor find any preventitive medication that helps me, I have just been taking excedrin migraine to manage the pain. However, looking through the symptoms of some of the conditions with similar symptoms I found that my symptoms were closer to a brain aneurysm/cluster headaches as the pain is almost always directly behind my eye as well as that same side of my head (throbbing pain). Is it possible that I was misdiagnosed or is pain behind the eye also a symptom of migraines?

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Most of the time we could not attribute any cause for migraine. Most often it is idiopathic means with out any particular cause.
You can take an MRI brain to rule out conditions like aneurysm or any other intracranial cause just for your reassurance.
Pain behind ear can be a symptom of migraine and different patients experience different spectrum of head ache.
You can take triptans and flumarizine for preventing migraine attacks. Avoid sleep deprivation as it can provoke migraine attack.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
