Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Pain In Thigh, Calf And Ankle Post Meniscus Repair Surgery On Knee Normal?
I had my meniscus on my left knee repaired on May 12th. I was also told that I have really bad arthritis and bone spurs for someone my age (47). I have been experiencing pain in my upper thigh, knee, calf, and ankle. I feel like the pain is worse now than it was prior to surgery. I have used ice packs, heat, and a jet tub with epson salt. The doctor also put me on an anti-inflammatory which I started on May 26th. Should I still be experiencing pain in my thigh, calf, and ankle 4 weeks after surgery?
As per my surgical experience, moderate amount of pain is anticipated for a period of 2 weeks or so after meniscus surgery repair, but at 1 month period, severe intensity pain needs definite work up. If the proper physiotherapy is being practiced out and anti inflammatory medicines are not supportive, kindly discuss the need of an MRI of the knee for further guidelines of management in this case. However, meanwhile, if you feel any questions or doubts, please do not hesitate to discuss at this marvelous platform.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
