Is Pelvic MRI Recommended Post Transabdominal And Transvaginal Sonogram For Cyst?

Hello. During a thoracic and lumbar MRI an image of a 7cm mass on my right ovary was spotted. A transabdominal and transvaginal sonogram named the mass as a complex cyst. My doctor would like me to have a pelvic MRI done. The sono revealed there isn t vascular flow to the cyst, but what information is my doctor hoping to obtain from an MRI?

Hi,

While the imaging done so far suggests that there is little to no risk of cancer, your doctor most likely ordered the MRI to further investigate this route. MRI can obtain more detailed information of regional lymph nodes and any other signs of cancer. The next step - given symptoms - would be surgery. If you have no symptoms, current guidelines in Western Europe would suggest watchful waiting.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
