Hello, and I hope I can help you today.

First of all, Percocet can be safely taken for pain during pregnancy, so you do not need to worry about the baby in your situation.

Secondly, the only time child services would get involved at your delivery is if you were dishonest and your child was born with signs of narcotic withdrawal, or with breathing problems, as either can be seen in infants born to mothers who chronically use narcotics. However, if the mother admitted her use, was motivated to quit and could have a negative drug test before the birth, then it would be in her best interest to tell her doctor so she can show a negative drug test before the birth. If she is negative at the time of delivery, there is no reason that the baby would be taken away.

So I really recommend you tell your doctor about your situation- and if you can get clean before you have your baby, there should be no problems.

I hope I was able to adequately answer your question today and that my advice was helpful.

Beat wishes,

Dr. Brown
