Is Persistent Cough Combined With Wheezing A Cause For Concern In A Non-smoker?

I have moved to a bad allergy state about two and a half years ago, two months after moving here I started coughing, and I have had it ever since. Now I wheeze every time I laugh or cough. Do you think it could be serious? It s not normal to cough for two and a half years and not be a smoker.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of persistent cough combined with wheezing well this is definitely a matter of concern for non smoker as well. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like COPD symptoms , acute bronchitis , acid reflux , asthmatic condition , sleeping apnea or upper respiratory infection. Need not to worry. For now eat light at night , take benadryl twice a day and keep your head elevated while lying down. Avoid intake of outside food. Avoid cold, carbonated beverages. I would suggest you to consult pulmonologist for proper examination. Doctor may order chest x-ray, blood test and check vitals along with vitals. Doctor may also refer you to ENT specialist for upper respiratory tract infection or post nasal drip or allergy specialist for asthma. Doctor may also recommend CPAP machine after sleep study .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
