Is Pregnancy Possible After Discontinuing Depo-Provera Shots?

Hi. I was on the depo shot beginning in the end of January and I was supposed to get my second dose the end of April but I didn t because I didn t like the shot. I have not been on birth control since then and I haven t gotten my period yet. I thought I started my period yesterday, but only bled lightly for a couple hours and it just stopped all together. I m wondering what the chances are of me being pregnant after being off the depo shot but no period yet?? Anything will help. Thanks!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Pregnancy can occur as early as 3 to 4 months after your last shot of Depo-Provera. But it takes some women up to a year or two to conceive after they stop using this type of birth control.

Usually, women with lower body weights conceive sooner after discontinuing Depo-Provera than women with higher body weights.

Based on the history you seem to have some sort of withdrawal bleeding from the Depo shot wear off. However, to be on safer side get a home urine pregnancy test done to rule out pregnancy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
