Is Pregnancy Possible Despite Protected Intercourse?
Hello. Me and my boyfriend have had sex 3 different times and used a condom every time. I’m already bleeding and it’s been light/dark/brown on and off for about 3-4 days now. My period is about a week early and I’m having pregnancy symptoms. For example: I’ve thrown up a couple times, I’m tired more than usual, I’ve been emotional and angry, headaches, nipples are darker, breasts are tender. Could I be pregnant?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
As you used barrier contraception, the possibility of pregnancy is less. But barrier contraceptives are having little high failure rates compared with hormonal contraceptives. If you want to be sure, please go for blood test for pregnancy once. In blood test if beta HCG levels are more than 25 Milli International units per ml pregnancy should be considered. If test gives negative result you have to rule out other possible causes for your symptoms like pelvic inflammatory disease, gastritis, premenstrual syndrome. Analgesics and antiemetics can help in reducing the symptoms, if symptoms become severe better to consult your gynecologist once, get examined and take treatment accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query and I will be happy to answer any further follow-up queries. Take care.
