Is Pregnancy Possible Despite Taking I-pill?

I had unprotected sex with my girlfriend. It was her 12th day of her cycle . I gave her ipill within 24 hours of intercourse. After 7-8 days of taking ipill she experienced a brownish blackish spotting on her pads which was very minute like few drops. Her LMP was on 11 Oct . I want to know that now this time her periods gonna be normal or not . Like what will be the changes and how we can be sure its not pregnancy ? Pls reply doctor we are really scared .

Hi,

12th day of the period is high-risk time as ovulation happens during that time. Since i-pill (emergency contraceptive pill) was taken within 72 hours, it should have protected against pregnancy from happening.

The pill would cause breakthrough bleeding just like periods within 5 to 7 days after the pill intake.

However, she hasn't got the bleeding and instead has got an only brownish discharge.

Since the failure rate of use of such pills is about 10%, it is recommended to undertake a urine pregnancy test along with a trans-vaginal ultrasound scan.

Kindly consult Obstetrician with the report for clinical evaluation and appropriate management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
