Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had sex two days before ovulation and my partner released his semen inside me. I took one pill of postinor2 by 2pm on the day of my ovulation. I had sex again that night and he also released inside me but I took the second pill by 2am the next morning.do you think I can get pregnant after I had taken postinor earlier that day
I understand your concern. Postinor 2 is a hormonal preparation, which is used as an emergency contraceptive pill (morning-after pill). You have taken the pill as per the schedule with two doses and it needs to be taken within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse. Kindly use other modes of contraception like condom and spermicides until you get the withdrawal bleeding.
The pill should prevent pregnancy by causing withdrawal bleeding within 3 weeks from the day of its intake. If the bleeding doesn't happen by 3 weeks, you need to take a urine pregnancy test and seek medical attention promptly. The chances of failure of such pill is about 10 to 15%.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
