Is Pregnancy Possible Due To Vomiting Of The Contraceptive Pill?

I threw up my pill after unprotected sex could I be pregnant?I've been on the pill for three weeks now and I threw my pill up one morning, but I didn't think anything of it, so I carried on taking it. Then it happened again few weeks later at the exact same time, so of course I began to worry but didn't do anything about it. A few hours later I took my daily 9pm pill and then had unprotected sex with my boyfriend, then I had diarrhoea a little while after and my doctor said if I threw it up or had diarrhoea then the pill will no longer be in my system. So is there a possibilty?

Hi there, I have understood your concern. I will suggest you the best possible treatment options.

1 ) First of all do not panic.

2 ) You are right in suspecting the pregnancy as result of expelling out of the pill through vomiting or diarrhoea.

3 ) In such situation, I'd I was your treating doctor, I would have suggested the following -

A. Start on anti emetics and antacids, like ranitidine and Ondencetron. Anti diarrhoeal like metronidazole.

B. If possible, take emergency contraceptive pill within 24 to 72 hours of unprotected sex act. This will help to prevent unwanted pregnancy.

C. If this time frame is not feasible, then just wait for the expected date of the cycle. If you happen to cross your dates, then please get morning's first sample of urine tested for pregnancy. In case of doubt blood beta HCG test and USG will be of help.

4 ) Even If you are pregnant , you can opt for termination of the pregnancy with medicines safely till 9 weeks of the pregnancy.

I hope this answer helps you.
Thanks.
