Is Pregnancy Possible Even Though Test Results Are Negative?
hello, I've 40yrs old and have been trying to conceive for 2 yrs now. My periods are normally very regular (you could set your watch by them) however my last one was almost 2 wks early & I'm now over a week late with the one thats due. I did a pregnancy test 2 days ago which was negative, but still now sign of my period. I've felt a bit "crampy" which is normally a sign they are on due on, but also a bit flutter in my tummy which is new. Could I be preganant even thought the test was negative?

Hi..urine pregnancy test (upt) done by self at home is highly reliable and sensitive..if it shows negative result (not even a trace of second line), that means pregnancy is not a possibility..besides ,your menses have started getting irregular since last month ( when they came 2 weeks earlier)..so you need to get a hormonal evaluation done. If upt negative ( you can repeat it if you have any doubts about the first one), take tab meprate 10 mg twice a day for 5 days and then wait for another week for withdrawal bleed..simultaneously get a serum tsh and serum prolactin done..keep menstrual charting..start taking syrup evecare or syp menoreg 2 tsp twice a day for 2 months..and follow up with a gynecologic consultation..(as your age might pose some difficulties in conceiving)..in fact now you should get an infertility evaluation of both yourself and your partner..( 2 years is a long time, may be some intervention is required after proper tests to facilitate conception)..
