Is Pregnancy Possible Through Intercourse A Week After Commencing Sprintec Intake?

Hello, I have a question regarding my birth control. This is my first time taking birth control. And I believe I started taking it wrong. So I started Sprintec birth control and I believe I had to start taking the first pill the first day of my period or the sunday after my period started. BUT instead I took the first pill a week before my period was due. I waited the 7 days (a full week on the pill) until I had unprotected sex. I ve been on the pill for a week and a half now and my period is 5 days late. I am worried that I didn t start the pill right like instructed on the box and was wondering if it is possible that I could be pregnant because I took the pill before I was supposed to have my period. Was I protected after taking it a week? Am I still protected? help please thanks

HI,
I understand your query & concern.
* You had started your first pill before commencing your menses. The Sprintec is a combined hormones preparation, & it will delay your menses till the time you continue with the pills.( provided you have not conceived in last month )
In such condition, you should-
- Stop taking the pill to discard the pack of pills &wait for the periods to start. It can start any time within 8 days of stopping the pills.( in case you have no period in 8 days test for pregnancy & consult a doctor for medical termination of pregnancy.)
- If period starts, take first pill from a new pack of Sprintec on first Sunday after the periods. Take pill exactly at 24 hours interval every day without a break.Use barrier contraceptive & Condom) in first 7 days. After 7 days of pills, you are protected .
Take the pills monthly,one after another pack,till you wish for a child.
