Is Pregnancy Possible While On Implanon?

Is it possible to get pregnant on the implanon? I know nothing is 100% but I’ve never had a problem/ scare with my implanon before. I’ve also had a LEETZ surgery done so wondering if that would affect pregnancy aswell. The only reason I’m asking is because I’ve been feeling really nauseas today and smells have made me feel worse, which was a sign I noticed with my now 7 year old. Mind you I am now 25 and my partner is almost 30. Babies are on our life plan, but we’re hoping in the near future..

Hello,

My answer is as follows: if properly inserted, Implanon is quite safe, with failure rates less than 1%. It means that in more than 99% of times a pregnancy will not occur even if you have unprotected sex. However, it does not mean that you are safe from pregnancy when using Implanon. It only means that the chances of getting pregnant are really low. As you have mentioned, nothing is 100% safe. Regarding Large loop excision of the transformation zone (LLETZ) procedure, it does not affect your fertility capabilities and therefore it is not relevant for the problem you are talking about.

Since you are experiencing signs and symptoms similar to those encountered during your first pregnancy, then I advise you to use a home pregnancy test for evaluating your situation. It is necessary because, as we mentioned, no birth control method is 100% safe.

Furthermore, because the body never lies and if the home pregnancy test is negative, but you still have your pregnancy-like symptoms, you could maybe undergo an ultrasound examination (echo) in order to definitively rule out a potential pregnancy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ervin Toçi
