Is Proctitis A Pre-cancerous Indicator Of Colorectal Cancer?

My doctor just called me and told me that my colonscopy results tested positive for Proctitis. I have ulcerative colitis . He told me that I needed to go right away to get treated. He scared me and I asked him if he is telling me that I have cancer and he said, pre cancerous. I am worried.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Proctitis is a pre cancerous condition when the patient is having ulcerative collitis of long duration. Precise medical management and some cases do require radical surgery of hemi-colectomy or else as per the need of clinician expertise and representation of the patient.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
