Is Purple Bruising On Hand After IV Insertion A Cause For Concern?

I had an IV on my hand on Thursday for a cataract operation. It s Tuesday now and dark purple bruising has spread over my entire hand and about an inch on my wrist. There is no pain just a little soreness when pressed. Is this something to be concerned about?

Dear thanks for the question.

Although it is not so serious as it is not causing much problems but still i would like to advise you to visit the treating doctor once to know the reason behind it. Smaller bruises or discolouration are common after iV infusion but since whole hand is involved in your case it need to be examined.it could be allergic reaction to the chemicals in canula. For soreness you can use anti histamines (levocetirizine) .discolouration will take 2 to 3 weeks to fade completely.

I hope I have answered your question. I would love to answer follow up queries. Please rate my reply. I wish you good health. Thank you.
