Is Recurring Pain In Head Post A Head Injury A Concern?

I am a cheerleader and my flyer elbowed me in the head, once on the left side and once on the right side. I got hit in the head while I was a cheer camp (the end of July) and afterwards was experiencing pain on the left side of my head whenever I looked to the right. While on the drive home from cheer camp I was also feeling a lot of pain, so much pain in fact that it made me cry. I get car sick a lot so I though it was just the motion sickness but still, after I got home I was still experiencing the same symptoms. The same symptoms had been occurring for the next few days and finally after about a week, it stopped. I wasn t sure if I had a concussion and I was planning on going to a doctor if the pain continued. Then I went to cheer practice and I got elbowed in the head again on the opposite side (right side.) It wasn t quite as bad but on and off I get slight pains and a headache and my stomach was hurting really bad again! I ve been feeling nervousness in my stomach, like butterflies. But I m not nervous at all. Yesterday, I had to take a concussion test but I m not sure yet if I passed or failed it. I was just wondering if I should see a doctor or at least maybe you can give me some information on if I do have a concussion or not.

Hi,

As per the history you have provided, the headache after head injury of any sort should have the following:
First of all, detailed clinical evaluation, an examination by a Doctor, Neurosurgeon if possible.
CT scan or MRI of the brain is a must to exclude any internal injury, bleeding.
If all is normal then one becomes sure about it and the worry is gone.
If there are any findings then this can be treated as the need be and be assured.
Hence I would advise you to get everything as mentioned above.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant, General Surgeon
