Is Redness And Swelling In Scrape Over Arm Sign Of Infection?
How do you know if a scrape is infected? I have taken pictures over the last few days and it has gotten worse (redder, swollen and it has spread). I was scraped on the inside of my arm just over my wrist by a rusty back of a basketball hoop. I have had my tetanus shot 2 years ago...
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain it seems that you have got infection at the site of injury with the basketball loop and due to infection it is spreading and you should consult a General Physician soon and get evaluated and start a course of antibiotics like Augmentin or Ciprofloxacin as well as you can take anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen.. Cleaning the area with antiseptic solution and application of triple antibiotic ointment can help.. As you have got the tetanus injection two years ago you can also go for a booster dose of tetanus.. Avoid scratching the area to prevent further spread of infection..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
