Is Redness On Skin With Burning And Itching Sensation Suggestive Of Hives?

last night my skin turned red, burning and itching in some areas. then it started spreading over my torso, then down my arms to my hands and is now traveling down my legs. I ve been applying copious amounts of benedryl and it seems to be letting up in the first areas (but also the areas treated.) is this hives? will it just move through my body then be gone?

Hi,

As per your query you have symptoms of redness on the skin with burning and itching sensation which could be due to an allergic reaction, environment factors, insect bite, pollen and some plants which can lead to hive symptoms.

The most important thing is to find the trigger factor. I would suggest you to
- Give cold compresses to hives several times a day to prevent from swelling and itching.
- Take over the counter antihistamine drug like benadryl.
- Stay in a cool and moist environment.

If symptoms still persist the consulting dermatologist for proper examination and treatment. The doctor may perform a skin test to find out the trigger factor and may prescribe anti-inflammatory drugs.
