Is Resting Heart Rate Being 84bpm A Cause For Concern?

I m a 26 year old smoker that s quitting after 10 years. I m at less than half of a pack per day and never smoked more than a pack in 24 hours. I have zero medical ailments and haven t been sick in more than 5 years. I have recently starting running and have a deep concern of fitness and health. My resting heart rate is at a consistent 84 bpm. I m 6 2 150 lbs. is 84bpm cause for concern?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello there
I admire your will to leave smoking completely.
Your increased heart rate is an effect of your heart being totally deconditioned and only recently been introduced to fitness regimes
It is also possible for you to have mild blood pressure which may be responsible for the raised heart rate..
Please check with your physician and try to give up smoking completely

Hope that helps
