Is Resting Heart Rate Of 126 Beats Per Minute Normal?

is 126 beats per minute too fast for a resting heart rate? I started having a fast heart rate when walking a half hour ago and it still hasn't calmed down. I've had a history of irregular heart beat in past and have had ablations to corret them.

Im 40 yrs old, and weigh 200 lbs.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

126 beats per minute is not high and has to be evaluated. Consult a cardiologist and take serial ECG/EKG monitoring to look for any abnormal rhythm. Do a thyroid function test as hyperthyroidism can cause elevated heart rate. If the heart rate is persistently high, you may have to take drugs to control the heart rate as high heart rate may lead to cardiac abnormalities later.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Shinas Hussain
