Is Schizophrenia A Genetical Disorder?

Hi Doctor ! My name is Hanh.I have a matter and i hope you answer to me.My farther s younger brother ( my uncle ) has schizophrenia so parents s my boyfriend concern about this.I want to know if i have baby whether my children are able to have schizophrenia and what is the percent ?.Thanks so much !

In fact, schizophrenia is a result of both genetic and environmental factors. Several genes are associated with an increased risk of schizophrenia and having a history of family psychosis increases the risk. Schizophrenia occurs at nearly ten percent of people who have a first-degree relative with this disorder,for example a parent or sibling.However despite genetical causes,there are also environment causes which are responsible,such as:exposure to viruses, malnutrition, psychosocial and socioeconomic factors.
But,dont be afraid because you can speak with a genetic counselor that can provide information on the way your uncles disorder relates to you and to the rest of your family.
