Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m scheduled for a bone marrow biopsy. When I was at my pain management appt.(was seen by a fabulous nurse practitioner and she stated that I tell the Doctor that I want to be sedated (twilight). I have seen diff. Dr s doing the test. Some just number the area of the biopsy, but one stated that he starts an I.V. with a calming drug you have to be awake of course, but not feel the worse of the pain. The Dr. would ask if the patient was feeling pressure or pain and if the patient was in pain they would administer it through the I.V. where others just numb the area in the back. I go to Zangmeister Oncology & Hematology Center, and lucky enough (I am being told) to be seen by the big dog , Dr. Zangmeister himself. I don t know whether to find a different center that does perform it under a slight sedation, or do the majority of Dr s do the procedure w/o I.V. sedation? Thank you, Miss Betty
