Is Serum Cholesterol Level Of 275 A Cause For Concern?

My cholesterol total is 275. I believe my bad was 183. I am not overweight and exercise 45 minutes a day and sometimes 1 hour 45 minutes. I weigh only 123 lbs. What is the best foods to bring down your bad cholesterol? Is coffee with 2 percent milk bad for cholesterol? Thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I have read your description and understand your concern.
Although you are not overweight, serum total cholesterol of 275 mg/dl is above normal reference range. Drinking coffee with milk does not increase the cholesterol levels.
You need to consume high fibre diet with more of vegetables and salads along with moderate amount of proteins in the form of pulses. Consume more of complex carbohydrates and avoid taking refined sugars.
Continue with exercise what you have been doing.
Kindly check one again your complete lipid profile in fasting sample after 2 months to look for the improvement.
Kindly consult Physician with the report for proper evaluation and management.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
