Is Severe Pain In Knee Radiating To Ankle Due To Sprained Calf?

My wife stepped off a curb awkwardly about a week ago. She has pain from the lower back of her knee to her ankle now. It seems to be getting a little worse as time goes by. Based on on line info, I don t think its a pcl injury, could it be just a sprained or strained calf muscle? The pain is worse when she keeps her knee bent. Been using a heating pad off and on. Looking for possible causes and treatment options

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It may be due to muscle sprain.

Still for further assessment you may require MRI back, nerve conduction studies after orthopedic surgeon consultation.

For pain you can take tablet acetaminophen.

Apply diclofenac gel or ointment locally. Heating pads may help.

Continue physical therapy.

Avoid heavy weight lifting

Hope I have answered your query...
Let me know if I can assist you further.
