I had a hysterectomy (robotic) two weeks ago. My surgeon said no vaginal sex for 6 weeks. My husband and I have an active sex life. We would like to know if alternative methods of sex would be safe for me. If I get excited will that tear out my vaginal stitches or effect the healing process? I notice a tiny bit of spotting when I got excited. Is that a bad sign? Should I call my surgeon?

Infectious Diseases Specialist, Dr. Arun's Response
Hello dear,
Thank you for your contact to health care magic.
I read and understand your concern.
I am Dr Arun Tank answering your concern.
Yes, please avoid sexual intercourse during 6 week period because this can interfere with the healing process and let the wound to be opened.
Yes alternative method for sexual pleasure would be great idea you can think for it. It will not interfere with the healing process.
If the bleeding is still there after two to three weeks period than it is possible that healing process is impaired. I advice you to visit the surgeon to examine your self properly.
Please maintain good hygiene untill you visit the doctors , this will prevent any future infection.
I will be happy to answer your further concern on bit.ly/DrArun.
