Is Sharp Pain In Stomach At The Start Of Period A Cause For Concern?

I m used to having really bad cramps right before I start my period, but this time it s different. It s only on my right side and it s not in the same place I usually cramp in. It s a sharp pain that feels like a knife and radiates to the same area in my back. Should I be concerned? This just started a few hours ago.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Welcome to healthcaremagic.com And thanks for sharing your concern with us.
Such sharp pain could be indicative of secondary dysmenorrhea which can be related with problem in pelvic organ or uterus like:
- pelvic inflammatory disease
-endometriosis
-fibroids
-PMS
-std
-anxiety and stress
-adenomyosis
Pelvic exam , imaging tests with blood tests should be done .
I would suggest you consult with your gynecologist to rule out above mentioned conditions and for proper treatment .
Best Regards,
DR.S.TOMAR
