My son has very large tonsils and it has been recommended by one surgeon that he have them shaved and the other that he have them removed. I really don t feel comfortable removing an important part of his body s immune system and the anesthesia is a major concern for me as well. I am worried about the harm they may do by staying in. He has never had tonsilitis but does get some respiratory infections throughout the year. He does snore but does not appear to pause in his breathing. He will be four in October.
Yes tonsils do play an important role in immune system but on the other hand you need to see the benefits and drawbacks. Tonsillectomy is chosen when there is recurrent history of severe tonsils infection. Gradually body overcomes this. If you do not get them removed then main problem will be recurrent infection which will effect the normal day to day work. Although his age is young. You can take opinion by visiting another doctor so that you can decide in a better way for your child.
