Is Shortness Of Breath A Symptom Of Anxiety?

My grandson has ADHD and takes 10mg of VaVanse daily. He also has mild asthma. He has been having trouble breathing, takes deep breaths and feels like he isn t getting enough air, but his school nurse said she checked him today and he had 02 SAT and 98% oxygen. Lungs clear and has good color. He has been going from happy to very angry and hitting really quick the last couple of weeks. Could this be anxiety?

Hello,

Thanks for your query on HCM

"As"per your clinical history is concerned please follow like this -

1)Do a clinical examination by your Doctor[pulmonologist] and check [Spirometry], [Peak flow], CBC and chest X-ray to confirm it.

2)Discuss with your treating Doctor about [fluticasone-salmeterol]inhalers, Omalizumab etc

Do take few lifestyle modifications like this -

1)Do follow your asthma action plan prepared by your Doctor.

2)Get vaccinated for influenza and pneumonia.

3)Try to Identify and avoid asthma triggers. A number of outdoor allergens and irritants ranging from pollen and mold to cold air and air pollution can trigger asthma attacks. Find out what causes or worsens your asthma, and take steps to avoid those triggers.

4)Try to monitor your breathing. You may learn to recognize warning signs of an impending attack, such as slight coughing, wheezing or shortness of breath. But because your lung function may decrease before you notice any signs or symptoms, regularly measure and record your peak airflow with a home peak flow meter.

Regarding mood changes please follow like this -

1)Do a physical examination by your treating [psychiatrist]and check current [ADHD rating scales].

2)Do adjust dose of current medications as per body weight.

Do follow few preventive steps like this -

1)Be consistent, set limits and have clear consequences for your child's behavior.

2)Put together a daily routine for your child with clear expectations that include such things as bedtime, morning time, mealtime, simple chores and TV.

3)Try to avoid multitasking yourself when talking with your child, make eye contact when giving instructions, and set aside a few minutes every day to praise your child.

4)Work with your clinical psychotherapist to identify problems early, to decrease the impact of the condition on your child's life.

Hope that helps
