Is Smoking Advisable While Recovering From Jaundice?

Hey Doctor, Last month i have jaundice and my tests shows hepatitis C, I am recovered from jaundice. my LFTs are in normal ranges now and my treatment of hep C will start in few days. i am a smoker but i quit when my jaundice was on peak. As my LFTS are normal and treatment of Hep C will start in few Can i smoke now? If i can then how much cigarettes for a day? if i can not then for how long?

Dear patient,
i understand your need to smoke because of the addictive nature of smoking.
however the recommendations are clear: Do not return to smoking.
smoking will increase your risk for lung cancer, bladder cancer, renal cancer, ENT cancers, esophageal cancer, pancreatic cancer. It will decrease your fertility, it will increase your blood pressure and will cause heart problems, strokes, infarctions.
Smoking is not advised in any situation and should be discouraged by all physicians. No doctor will ever tell you it s fine to smoke.
however to treat your dependence on smoking you can use nicotine patch or nicotine gums to decrease your need for smoking, also some medications such as buproprion and varenicline will help you a lot to get rid of this habit.
