Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a sore throat just on one side but it hurts all the way down to the hollow of my neck. My ear on the same side hurts as well. I built an outdoor fire that had ivy mixed in the twigs which I may be allergic to. Do you think this is what is causing the sore throat and should I see a Dr? The fire was on Saturday and now it s Tuesday and seems worse each day. Thanks!
Understanding your concern. As per your query you are wondering if sore throat caused due to ivy smoke which seems to be due to upper respiratory tract infection which is caused by viral/ bacterial microorganism . The symptoms can also occur due to allergic reaction due to ivy smoke , so take over the counter anti histamine like benadryl . I would suggest you to visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. You should go for throat swab test and get blood tests done and start treatment after proper diagnosis. Avoid intake of outside food. Avoid spicy and salty food substances. You should do warm saline gargles. You should take steam inhalation. Take proper course of antibiotic along with mucolytic agents.
Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
