Hello,
I can understand your concern. I can think of two possibilities for sour testing phlegm in your mouth. It could be either due to presence of periodontal disease or
sinusitis. Fungal infections are not that commonly associated with sour taste in mouth.
If your
oral hygiene is not adequate and you are not visiting
dentist regularly, chances are there that
plaque and calculus might get accumulated in the gums causing inflammation and infection of the gums and other tissues called periodontits or pyorrhea. Due to pus development in the gums in this disease, you can feel sour taste in mouth. I would advise you to visit a dentist for examination of the oral cavity and confirm diagnosis. Dentist will perform scaling and root planing which will mechanically remove calculus and your gum health will improve.
Sinusitis is a possibility as you have recently been through nasal surgery. It is different than CSF leakage so is not seen in scanning procedure. You should see an
ENT specialist for this diagnosis if dentist clears you of any
gum disease.
By the time you see a specialist and get treatment, you can use mouthwash and brush twice a day to have temporary relief in the bad taste in mouth.
I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. Take care.
Best,
