Is Spotting And Clotting For Long Periods During Menstruation Normal?

Hi, I had the marina coil fitted just over three years ago due to heavy painful periods, I still have periods which are lighter but they can lady for ten days and clot and they become quite dark brown is this normal ? Also in the last three years I have started to suffer from ibs could this be linked to the coil ?
