Is Spotting, Clotting And Cramping In Menstruation Normal?

i am 38 years old and my tubes are tied . I was 9 days late starting my period this month....it started very light spotting of brown. That lasted for 3 days. I finally started flowing more,although still a lot less than normal, but with this I passed a whitish grey looking clot. It was about the size of my thumb. I had bad cramps for a couple hours preceding the passage. Is this normal?
