Hello, Sometime around Halloween of last year I had a Molar pregnancy. I lost lots of blood at that time and am actually still anemic. Since I have to be watched for a full year it was very important for me to not get pregnant, so I decided to get the birth control shot. I got it last sometime in December. But I m thinking it wore off. I have been having this dark brown stuff, it has some red blood in it though, come out for almost 2 months straight now. And I m wondering if this is something I should worry about or not. Since I had a molar pregnancy I m very concerned, because I ve heard that some of the cancer cells can spread and cause problems..so I m hoping that this has nothing to do with that. But is this an issue I should be worried about?
Molar pregnancy can recur and also can sometimes turn cancerous.
When it turns cancerous it can invade into the uterus walls and cause continued bleed. There are various names associated with such a situation like choriocarcinoma and invasive mole.
Yes, that can lead to spotting and passage of dark brown material.
I will advise you to get a sonography of your uterus as soon as possible to know the status and to find out if it has turned cancerous.
Another thing which needs to be checked is your blood beta HCG as this hormone rises if molar pregnancy turns cancerous.
I will advise you to get these tests done as soon as possible as spotting so late after molar pregnancy is NOT normal.
Are you having any other symptoms like loss of weight or appetite?
Regards,
Dr Som MD
