Is Spotting Normal During First Trimester?

I have been trying for a baby and my period was 2 days late (it is always regular) and then for past two days I have very small amounts of light brown blood when going to the toilet, my period is usually heavy and regular and this is very very light and intermitent. I took a pregnancy test today 3 days after period due and it was negative. what could this be. could I be pregnant. I had a miscarriage in September and had similar experience when I had a late period and then small amounts of blood that turned into what I thought was a period then found out I was pregnant at 8 weeks. Is this likely to happen again.

Hallow Dear,

I would not label 2-3 days overdue periods as missed period. It can be just an occasional variation of your normal menses.

The pregnancy test you have performed is just on 3rd day of delayed period. It is too early to have reliable results with urine pregnancy test. These tests give reliable results about a week to 10 days after missed period.

Any spotting or bleeding is not a sign of pregnancy. In fact, pregnancy is characterised by absence of menses (bleeding). Any bleeding during any stage of pregnancy denotes risk to the pregnancy.

This light spotting could be just a start of menses and may increase within few days. If within a week you do not get menses, you may then perform pregnancy test on overnight early morning first urine sample.

Alternatively, you may opt for Beta hCG test any time today onwards.

I hope this clarifies your doubts.
