Is Spotting Normal During First Trimester?

I found out I was pregnant 3 weeks ago Saturday, April 2. Two days ago I was having what I thought were gas pains under my rib area. Then later that day I had not even a dime size amount of dark brown spotting. I have had two miscarriages before this pregnancy. I did not, however, have any cramping or bright red blood. The spotting also stopped before I went to bed and hasn t returned. Do you think I could still be pregnant? I took an at home pregnancy test today to see if it would detect a strong amount of HGC, but it was fainter than the first test. What do you think?

Hallow dear,

Now you have two ordeals to carry out:
1. Confirm your pregnancy by urine pregnancy test (UPT) and/or ultrasonography. Your UPT test is faint positive.
2. Assess the safety of the pregnancy if you are pregnant. Bleeding or spotting at any stage of pregnancy is not normal and indicates risk to the pregnancy. It is good that you just had spotting and has stopped and also that you did not have pain.

Spotting of bleeding in first three months without pain means this is Threatened abortion. Keep yourself to the bed. Report to the Obstetrician. May be you will be asked to confirm the safety and the status of the pregnancy by ultrasonography. Depending up on the reports of ultrasonography, you will be advised further.

Fainter result of UPT indicates either pregnancy outside the uterine cavity (ectopic pregnancy) or non-viable baby in the uterus. Please do not take any risk and report to the Obstetrician ASAP.

I hope you will follow the advice.
