Is Stabbing Sensation In The Ribs Diagnosed As Costochodritis Serious?

I'm 15 and for about a year now, I've had a stabbing sensation in my ribs, mainly on the right. I've been to the doctors and they diagnosed me with costochondritis but the pain is getting worse and some day I feel genuinly unwell, could it be serious?

Hello
Thanks for your query.
I understand your problem. To be frank, the costochondritis pain is very much difficult to reduce. Sometimes it goes away spontaneously. You have to take ibuprofen or indomethacine tablet twice daily when there is serious pain. But one thing I can assure you this pain will not cause life threatening condition if it is really due to costochondritis. Sometimes local steroid injection may give you relief.
Thank you.

Dr Arnab Maji
