Is Strep In The Nose Contagious?

My grandson had sinus surgery last Thursday. On Monday he was diagnosed with a possible staph infection in the nose. The culture results just came back and they are saying it is strep, not staph. How does this happen and will oral antibiotics take care of this? Is strep in the nose contagious?

Streptococcus is a bacterium which may cause infection in the throat and nose. It can be treated with oral antibiotics.
It may spread to other people by droplets from the nose, napkins and towels of the patient etc. Hence it is advisable to separate the towels and napkins used by the patient from others.Frequent handwashing is also recommended. In severe cases, the patient may be advised to stay from others, especially babies and small children for about 2-3 days to prevent spreading of the infection
