Hi,

Rapid heart beat can be due to some developing cardiac pathology like Sinus tachycardia, Ventricular tachycardia, Fibrillation, etc. You are suggested to get your dad physically examined & get CBC, lipid function tests, ECG, Echo, CT done to help him get evaluated for any cardiac pathology causing the discomfort.

Factors that trigger heartbeat are alcohol, caffeine, thyroid disorders, anemia, drug abuse. If left untreated sudden elevated heartbeat can complicate to Coronary artery disease, Heart failure or Heart attacks. Avoid oily, spicy food. Do regular exercises. Lead a healthy lifestyle.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
