Is Surgery For Brain Fluid Retention Advisable For A Person With High BP?
Hello, my sister is 66 years old and has diabetes (insulin dependent for close to 30 years, fluctuating blood sugar), stroke in 2012 Dec, cholesterol, High blood pressure, frequent salt imbalance, Thyroid imbalance. She has recently been diagnosed with excess brain fluid which requires an operation? to drain the excess fluid. What are the chances for a successful operation in her case?
* As per my clinical experience, the surgery of brain for fluid retention require evaluation of multiple parameters as
- cause of fluid collection as impaired venous drainage, arachnoid granulation disorder or others
- presence of any intracerebral infection, tumor or others
- percentage of BP from the brain fluid
- pre operative assessment of patient for anesthetic point of view
- possible risks and benefits of the prcedureat this age
Kindly send me scanned copies of the MRI and other reports for further concrete discussion and guidelines accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
