I have had a hearing test. I was told I have otosclerosis. This past Friday, I visited an otolarynologist but was not very comforted with his prognosis. He encouraged the surgery. I feel I need a second opinion. He quickly looked in my ears. ..said I have otosclerosis. When I asked if he could determine that by looking in my ears he said no. . .he simply determined I have healthy ears. . ruling out other complications.
Hello, Thanks for posting your query in HCM. otosclerosis can be diagnosed with tuning fork hearing test and an audiogram. otosclerosis is gradually progressive condition. If there is disbility in performing daily activities due to progressive hearing loss, then there are only two options. Using hearing aid or surgery (stapedotomy). I honestly suggest you should go for hearing aid trials. if there is mild to moderate hearing loss, then hearing aid will give good quality of life. You can try surgery if you cannot use hearing aids, depends on your age actually.
