Is Surgery The Only Solution For The Wound Of A Diabetic Patient?
i am looking for a diabetic wound care facility for my mother she has an ulcer on her big toe about the size of a regular pencil eraser and the people in her care are wanting to take her toe off and i cant see where that is going in a right direction . She is severe diabetic but under control but the antibiotics that she needs to take affect her heart condition . This has been going on for 4 or so months and she has healed it once but injured it again. i just dont think all is being done in VIctoria texas and was looking for someone in Houston texas to help fix this . If a toe is amputed to make a larger cut or wound how is that going to be heal if this ulcer is not
Wound debridement is essential to prevent infection from spreading further which can be dangerous. If after healing she has injured it again, it means that proper foot care practices are not being implemented. Does she walk barefoot? if yes then do not allow her to do so. Does she wear diabetic footwear? She must take adequate care of her feet to avoid any injury. A non-healing ulcer must be brought to the notice of a foot care specialist. Do you have a good podiatrist (foot care specialist)/ foot surgeon in your region? If yes then visit him as soon as possible. Do not delay or neglect any wound or non-healing ulcer. It should not spread further to infect the foot significantly. After the wound has been removed, healing of healthy tissue takes place but if infected wound is not removed on time, the infection can spread further affecting a larger area of the leg. A good podiatrist/foot surgeon will use his discretion to decide how much of the tissue has to be removed to prevent the infection from spreading further. Hope your doubt has been clarified. If you need more information on how to care for diabetic feet, you can ask me again. I will be glad to help you.
