Is Surgery The Only Treatment Option For Severe Mitral Insufficiency With Rupture Of The Posterior Leaflet?

Good night. I am a runner and during this week, I was diagnosed with severe mitral insufficiency, with rupture of the posterior leaflet. I m 50 years old, I don t smoke, I don t drink alcohol and I have an excellent diet and physical condition. The doctor told me I d have to operate, and I m a little scared, I d like to know more about the best approach to my condition, types of surgeries and actual success rates and complications. Thank you.

Hi,

Yes, surgery would be most appropriate. But while awaiting surgery, medication like Furosemide will be life saving.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
