Is Surgery The Only Way To Cure SLK Of Eyes?

I have been diagnosed with slk of they eyes. I am using steroid drops which help but was told surgery is only other thing that will fix this yet I read online there are other drops to try. I am also concerned about the recovery time from cauterizing or what chances of complications or return of the condition come with surgery. Thank you.

Hello and thank you very much for the question!
Superior limbic keratoconjuctivitis is a chronic inflammatory disease of the superior bulbar conjunctiva, limbus and upper cornea. There is not a known etiology of eyes SLK.There are different opinions about the treatement of this disease. For example, topical silver nitrate, ketotifen fumarate, lacrimal punta occlusion, cromolyn sodium etc.Anyway, there is not a gold standard in the treatment of SLK.This is about the medical therapy.About the surgery, upper conjunctival resection with or without thermal cauterisation and with or without amniotic membrane implantation has been reported to have satisfactory results. Also, nitrogen liquid cryotherapy applied with double freeze-thaw technique has been reported to be successful, even though retreatements may be neccessary!
Best regards!
