Is Swelling After A Daith Piercing Extending Towards The Cheek And Neck Normal?

Hello, a couple of years ago i had gotten my daith pierced. Last week it had gotten infected for the first time. The infection went from my ear into my cheek and down my neck. Within 24 hrs I had swelling in those areas and it was very soar. I also had a slight fever and flu like body aches. I called my Dr and did get antibiotics that I am almost finished with. The swelling and pain in my ear, cheek and neck are gone but I am extremely tired and still have body aches. Is this normal?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I am sorry for the infected daith piercing you experienced. Although you took one course of antibiotics, and the swelling and pain are gone, I highly recommend getting another course of antibiotics to get fully treated. Unfortunately, these types of infection can get relapsed.

Furthermore, I also highly suggest getting your piercing removed to prevent future more severe infections. Being extremely tired and body aches could be partially due to infection you experienced and antibiotics used.

Take analgesic medications orally and vitamin B and C supplement to gain strength. Probiotics to stabilize altered flora plus increase fluids intake with oral rehydration salt to replace the lost fluids when going through infection.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini
