Is Swelling In Finger Normal After Removing A Piece Of Nerve?

I had surgery 11 days ago on my middle finger below the middle knuckle to remove a piece of the nerve that had bunched up. The stitches were removed yesterday morning. Now my finger is swollen from the middle knuckle down to my hand. Is this normal? Is the scar in danger of opening up?

Hello,

As per your case history of scar site swelling. We need to ask you whether there is associated pain? Swelling normally appears at the site of suture which may be dressed up for 7 to 10 days. If there is associated pain and warmth then there is a chance of infection.

My advice is:
1. Apply a mild antibiotic cream like Fusiderm cream twice daily on it.
2. Take an anti-inflammatory medication like Ibuprofen twice daily for 5 days.

Swelling will mostly subside by this treatment. If problem persists then consult a dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harshit Bhachech
