Is Swelling Of The Foot, With Peripheral Artery Disease, Anything Serious?

my husband has numbness and pain in right lower leg and foot which his doctor stated was likely peripheral artery disease and prescribed med to help circulation. he asked if there had been any swelling, which there had been none. now 6 days later, still no swelling in right foot, but left is now swollen in foot and ankle. is there immediate danger?

Numbness and pain can be due to poor circulation as his doctor mentioned which would be confirmed if decreased pulses are felt in examination.

It can also be due to issues with the nerve supply to the area. This can be checked by a general neurological examination of the lower limbs which would involve assessing power, reflexes, tone and sensation.

In terms of the swelling of the foot that he is now experiencing, this may be due to trauma, infection, clot, arthritis, side effect of medication, venous disease.
If it continues, he may need reassessment.
